About HOPE

Hope Rehabilitation Society was founded in 1989 by a dedicated group of professionals in the medical field. At the beginning, the Society operated by collecting funds to acquire artificial limbs for those who were unable to earn their livelihood due to the loss of their legs, arms or hands.

A collection of funds has never been difficult in our society once a genuine and real CAUSE is there. Devoted individuals need merely a single call in response to which funds start pouring in. The difficulty or “Real Issue” was how to transform the life of these unfortunate individuals. How to make them independent? How to convert them into a useful productive citizen? While searching an answer to these questions it was discovered that the field of Rehabilitation, in general, was at its primitive stage in our country. For assistive devices like artificial limbs, surgical footwear and mobility aids there were nothing better than the First World War technology. For sufferers in the big cities’ population even this technology seemed latest but was also very expensive to the needy.

Hence the challenge ahead was where to find the best services for these less fortunate fellows. This old fashioned service was also very expensive to the needy. Well to do men, women and children were forced to visit the dirty slums in pursuit of the famous traditional artisans. These totally uneducated ‘experts’ had a very high clientage.

Even within the government institutions, the quality of the appliances was very poor whereas the costs were out of the reach of ordinary citizens. These services were never available under one roof or at least at a single place.
